Description
BD Vacutainer® Plus Serum Tubes are made of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and spray-coated with silica. Samples collected in these tubes are used for serum determinations in chemistry. Samples processed in these tubes may also be used for routine blood donor screening, immunohematology, and diagnostic testing of serum for infectious disease. In order to obtain serum samples from plastic tubes, the tube must have a coagulation activator added. BD Vacutainer® plastic serum tubes have silica particles added for this purpose. These tubes are marked with the acronym CAT (Clot Activator Tube). Recommended minimum time for coagulation from patients who have not been treated with anticoagulants is 60 minutes.
